Our Mission in Ethiopia

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Well, we moved back to Debre Zeyit yesterday and Elder and Sister Johnson are now in the mission office!  It's fun to be back "home" here.  Elder and Sister Moses brought some of our stuff back in their truck and spent the night last night and we got up EARLY and drove to Awash Falls, 2 1/2 hours away.  We had a WONDERFUL day!!  Here are some photos....

The drive to Awash, Ethiopia

An Ethiopian Orthodox Church

This herd of camels crossed the road RIGHT in front
of our truck!!

Oryx

These cute yellow wildflowers covered the ground in some places.

It is a beautiful area!

The Awash River

The really different little flowers on this bush
looked like white caterpillars!

More camels grazing....

We saw over a dozen vervet monkeys.
I loved this mom with her baby!

Check out the HUGE nest in this tree!

This is a baby crocodile resting on the riverbank.

This ostrich met us as we drove into the park.

He hung around us for a long time.

I liked  the light fixture above with rocks
hanging down.

Awash Falls that look like chocolate milk

Elder Wold, Elder Moses and our guide

We saw lots of baboons on our way out of the park

Beautiful Ethiopia!

Saturday was MORMON HELPING HANDS DAY!  We had a great time with the
Meganagna Branch!  Here are a few of the photos we took....

Kulf, age 3, the littlest one there and
Melaku, one of our Seminary boys.

Elder Wold with two of the YW in our branch.
The Johnsons, who just arrived to be the
new office couple

Sister Moses and her YW

Cute Kulf

Four of our 6 elders ~ Elder Thornton, Elder Williamson
Elder Christensen and Elder Nzime
(The other two were teaching a community
English class that morning.)

Pres. Eyob, Meganagna Branch President,
in front, was in charge of the project.

We cleaned up piles of corn husks, where women were
selling corn on the cob in the marketplace.

Fitih, age 10, on the right, worked (and played) hard!
Elder Moses is standing behind him.

Tariku worked harder than anyone!

Our vests from the back....

The whole Meganagna group

This is CUTE Zergi, who I did her whole family history for,
on FamilySearch, before she went to the Ghana Temple in June
with Elder Christensen, Elder Williamson and Elder Nzime.

On Monday, August 4th, we had a zone activity with the elders and
drove about 1/1/2 hours north of Addis to Portugese Bridge.  What
a BEAUTIFUL drive and a FUN place to hike!

The scenery was GORGEOUS!  SOOO green!!

The Zone Ü
( Habtamu on the front right in the white shirt, is a local missionary who was
getting ready to fly to Accra Ghana on his mission! )

What a BEAUTIFUL place!!

We saw LOTS of baboons!!

The cacti made us a little homesick for AZ....

On top of the bridge

What we had to hike down... VERY slippery rocks
wet with mud! : /

The inside of the bridge is made from Juniper wood.

A baboon cave

Oops! An accidental "selfie"!

We had lunch at THE FAMILY (Mexican ~ sort of) RESTAURANT

A few hours after we got home, we had a HUGE
rainstorm that turned to hail and piled up in the
Church parking lot!!

This huge tree fell over from the wind!
